JioHotstar's short-form content platform TADKA has crossed the milestone of 100 million users, highlighting the rapid growth of premium micro-content in India and the increasing shift toward mobile-first entertainment consumption. The achievement underscores how streaming platforms are adapting to changing viewer preferences, particularly among younger audiences seeking quick, engaging content formats.

Key Highlights

  • JioHotstar's TADKA surpasses 100 million users, reflecting growing demand for premium micro-content.
  • Daily watch time per viewer rises fivefold as younger audiences drive engagement.

Rising Demand for Mobile-First Entertainment

Launched as a dedicated short-form content offering within JioHotstar, TADKA features vertical, episodic videos typically lasting between 30 and 60 seconds. The platform offers content across genres including romance, drama, comedy, thrillers, sports, and youth-focused programming in multiple languages such as Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Currently, it hosts more than 100 original titles designed specifically for smartphone users.

According to the company, daily watch time per viewer has increased fivefold since launch, indicating strong audience engagement beyond initial experimentation with the format. The growth reflects a broader trend in India's digital entertainment market, where consumers are increasingly embracing bite-sized storytelling alongside traditional long-form content.

Young Audiences Drive Growth

TADKA's audience profile highlights its strong appeal among younger viewers. More than 42% of users are under the age of 24, while metro cities and Tier-II markets each contribute nearly 40% of overall watch time. This suggests that premium short-form content is gaining traction across both established urban centers and emerging digital markets.

The platform's growth is also influencing content production trends. As demand for micro-content rises, creators are increasingly producing content across cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Indore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai, expanding storytelling beyond traditional entertainment hubs.

JioHotstar said the milestone represents a significant shift in streaming consumption patterns, with audiences increasingly seeking content that fits seamlessly into daily routines and shorter viewing windows. The company believes premium micro-content is emerging as a distinct entertainment category capable of unlocking new audiences, creative opportunities, and revenue streams for the industry.
