Vidya Balan Leads National Drive for Early Cancer Screening
Actor Vidya Balan is leading a nationwide campaign urging Indians to prioritise early cancer screening. The initiative, Sanjeevani: United Against Cancer, is a collaboration between Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, News18 Network, and Tata Trusts.
Now in its third edition, the campaign aims to raise awareness that anyone, regardless of age or fitness, can be at risk of cancer.
The campaign launch features two short films starring Vidya Balan, delivering a clear message that “early detection saves lives.” In one film, seemingly fit individuals ignore screening, only to face the reality that cancer can strike anyone.
The second film compares shooting a film scene with screening—while a scene can be retaken, missing early detection cannot be undone. Both films stress the importance of regular testing.

More than 70% of cancer cases in India are detected at late stages, making treatment difficult and reducing survival chances. Sanjeevani: United Against Cancer aims to encourage people to get tested on time. The campaign highlights that a healthy lifestyle, while helpful, cannot replace regular medical checkups. Detecting cancer early can improve recovery and treatment success.
Vidya Balan said this campaign holds personal importance for her. “A healthy lifestyle is not a guarantee against cancer,” she noted, urging people to move from fear to responsibility through screening. The initiative also calls for open discussions about cancer and removing the stigma that keeps many from getting tested.
