A strong Rs 40 crore haul on its second Sunday alone pushed Spider-Man: Brand New Day total collections to Rs 485 crore, edging past Avatar: The Way of Water's previous benchmark of Rs 465 crore. The standout element of this achievement isn't just the number - it's the speed. The film needed only 11 days to get there, a pace that very few Hollywood titles releasing in India have ever come close to matching.

Tracing the Record Through the Years

The chase for Hollywood's biggest box office collections in India number goes back to 1994, when Jurassic Park became the first Hollywood film to receive a Hindi dub for Indian audiences. Titanic later became the first to cross Rs 50 crore, and Avatar followed as the first to breach the Rs 100 crore mark.

From there, Furious 7 took the tally to Rs 151 crore, while The Jungle Book pushed past both the Rs 200 crore and Rs 250 crore milestones. Avengers: Infinity War came within touching distance of Rs 300 crore, before Avengers: Endgame raised the bar significantly to Rs 445 crore. Avatar: The Way of Water held onto the top spot most recently at Rs 465 crore - a record that has now been overtaken.
