SRH vs DC Match Abandoned, Sunrisers Hyderabad Eliminated from Playoff Race

Fans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium were left disappointed as heavy rain washed out the IPL 2025 Match 55 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC). The game was called off, with both teams splitting a point each. The result hit SRH hard, knocking them out of the playoff race, while DC’s chances of reaching the top four hang by a thread.

DC batted first after SRH captain Pat Cummins chose to bowl. They got off to a rough start, crumbling to 29/5 in just 7.1 overs. Cummins was on fire, taking out Karun Nair (0), Faf du Plessis (3), and Abishek Porel (8). Jaydev Unadkat got rid of KL Rahul (10), and Harshal Patel sent DC captain Axar Patel (6) packing. Things looked grim for DC until Tristan Stubbs (41 off 36) and Ashutosh Sharma (41 off 26) steadied the ship with a solid 66-run partnership off 45 balls, pushing DC to 133/7 in their 20 overs.

SRH were gearing up to chase when the rain started. What began as a light drizzle soon turned into a downpour. Ground staff tried their best, but water pooled on the field, and the match couldn’t continue past the 11:42 PM IST deadline for a shortened game. Umpires eventually abandoned the match, with Cummins and Axar Patel shaking hands on a soggy pitch.

The washout was a killer blow for SRH. With a maximum of 13 points possible, they’re officially out of the playoffs. Cummins, who bowled brilliantly for 3/19, called it a tough night but said the team wanted to put on a show for the fans. DC, sitting at 13 points, now face a do-or-die situation in their last three games against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Mumbai Indians to keep their playoff dreams alive.

SRH’s season has been a struggle, with players like Ishan Kishan failing to fire. DC showed some grit through Stubbs and Sharma but will feel the sting of missing a chance to boost their campaign. With fans bummed about the rain, all eyes are on the next IPL matches as the playoff race heats up.
