Real Madrid demonstrated their offensive ability under the leadership of Xabi Alonso capturing 57 percent of the ball and making 21 shots with 11 being on target as opposed to six by Juventus. Madrid also showed clinical finishing with Garcia scoring a towering header off a pinpoint cross by Trent Alexander-Arnold. Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio made 10 saves including amazing saves on Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham as the Italians could not get an equalizer.

The first half was draw with no goal, both teams dropping opportunities. Francisco Conceicao of Juventus had a lovely chance which he wasted and Valverde headed powerfully, but his shot was deflected by Di Gregorio. Arda Guler, who impressed in the game against Real Madrid, had been causing problems to Juventus with his accurate crosses but to no avail until Garcia came into the game.

His fellow forward Kylian Mbappe came off the bench in the 68th minute to make his tournament debut, replacing Garcia. His presence energized the fans but he was unable to contribute to the score. Juventus raised a late push as Randal Kolo Muani saw his penalty-claim denied in added time but Real Madrid held on to its result with Rudiger Antonio and Thibaut Courtois putting up defensive shields.
