WWE's debut on Netflix represents a significant milestone for both brands, indicating Netflix's growing ambitions for live sports streaming and WWE's ongoing global expansion. Starting April 1, 2025, all WWE content, including Raw, NXT, SmackDown, and major events like WrestleMania and the Royal Rumble, will be exclusively available on Netflix India, complete with Hindi commentary.

Netflix's ambitions in live sports

Netflix's broader foray into live entertainment is enhanced by this strategic alliance. Although Netflix is primarily recognized for its documentaries and fiction, it has been progressively growing its live programming.

The organization has dabbled in live events, such as high-profile sporting events like the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul bout and award shows like the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

This is a significant moment in WWE history, ushering in what is being dubbed the "Netflix era".The leaders of both brands claim that the partnership will provide WWE fans with unparalleled global reach and accessibility.

During a recent press briefing, leaders Brandon Rigg, VP of nonfiction series and sports at Netflix; Nick Khan, president of WWE; and Chris LeGentil, executive VP of talent relations and head of communications at WWE, discussed the origins of their collaboration, noting that it reflects both parties' shared goals.

Rigg stated that, despite being new to live content, the platform is confident in its ability to deliver large-scale spectacles. He stated that, while they have only been focusing on live content for a year, it clearly reflects their ambitions.

"I believe it has sent a message, particularly to our members about what they can expect from these types of great live big events on service, and certainly with WWE every week of the year. We're still figuring it out. I mean, it is still early days. I believe the one thing we can do better than anyone else is deliver on a massive spectacle event," he said.

However, achieving this requires the right opportunities and partners. Rigg added that India is a critical market for Netflix.

WWE & India

India is a significant market for both Netflix and WWE due to its sizable digital-first audience. Bringing WWE to Netflix guarantees more accessibility for fans while utilizing the platform's worldwide reach, said Khan, who was instrumental in negotiating this historic deal as president of WWE.

He underlined that this collaboration makes sense as part of WWE's growth plan.

LeGentil claims that WWE is one of the most watched sports in India, drawing spectators of all ages and backgrounds. According to him, India's status as a digital-first nation generates numerous synergies for all parties involved.

He continued by saying that there are a ton of chances for fan interaction in India's digital-first environment.

By eliminating earlier obstacles like disjointed platforms and schedules, the Netflix and WWE partnership streamlines access to WWE content and offers a unified platform for viewers worldwide to stream the content.

"By removing earlier obstacles like disjointed platforms and irregular schedules, this agreement streamlines access to WWE content. Now, Indian fans have a single source for all WWE programming," LeGentil stated.
