By Media Infotainment Team | Friday, 04 September 2026

Mirzapur The Movie is eyeing a Rs 25 crore opening as it releases in theatres. The film stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and Shweta Tripathi, with Ravi Kishan joining the cast.

After three successful seasons on Prime Video, Mirzapur The Movie released in theatres on Friday, September 4. The film follows the battle for Mirzapur's throne as old enemies resurface and new threats emerge. Its story is set in the middle of the first season, taking off after the sixth episode - meaning fans will get to see several characters who have since died on the show.

Strong Advance Bookings Ahead of Release

Ahead of its theatrical release, the film had already generated strong interest at the box office, with advance bookings showing an encouraging response. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the movie recorded an advance gross of Rs 3.92 crore, excluding blocked seats, with 1,38,968 tickets sold across 7,442 shows. Including blocked seats, the film's advance booking stood at Rs 6.19 crore.

While fans of the series showed their excitement through advance bookings, the makers faced another challenge — ensuring the film works for both existing fans and new viewers.

Makers Say Film Is Accessible to New Viewers

At the trailer launch, the makers said that even those who haven't watched the series would be able to watch the film without feeling disconnected. Harshita Gaur, who plays Dimpy Pandit, said, "People had never seen something like Mirzapur before, and they have been hooked. Every time we feel that now that it's been three seasons, how will the audience react, they amaze us with their reaction. We didn't feel like a movie could ever be made. The film has to go back to season 1, so the universe has to be kept in mind. This new universe is a block between episode 6 and episode 7 of season 1. When the film ends, you will see how it merges with the other seasons."

Early Fan and Critic Reactions

Reactions to the film have been largely mixed-to-positive so far. One fan on X (@mahadev67008154) wrote: "Great 1st half followed by an average 2nd half! Some cheerful scenes in climax. The performances were good from everyone! Superb soundtrack! Overall a decent watch."

Another user (@VWritessss) called it "a decent one that doesn't deliver something big or disappoint you," adding that the first half was strong while the second half felt somewhat underwhelming, and that the climax could have been handled better.

A more critical review from @SAMTHEBESTEST_ described the film as "strictly average, strictly for fans," noting slow pacing and dated conflicts, though praising the final 30-35 minutes for picking up with action-packed scenes. The review also hinted at a possible sequel being teased at the film's end.

Trade analyst Nishit Shaw offered a more positive take on the first half, calling it "Mazedaar" and noting that it works even for viewers unfamiliar with the series, with special praise for the dialogues.
