  • Facebook Merges All Videos Into Reels, Drops Length and Format Limits
  • Meta Revamps Facebook Videos-Everything Becomes a Reel, No Time Cap
  • Facebook Unifies Video Experience, Reels Now the Default for All Uploads

In a significant shift for content creators, Meta has announced that all videos uploaded to Facebook will soon be classified as Reels, eliminating the distinction between traditional video posts and the short-form Reels format. This update, set to roll out globally over the coming months, aims to streamline the video-sharing experience on the platform, aligning it with the growing popularity of Reels across social media.

Right now, videos and Reels are two different beasts with their own editing tricks and settings. But in the future, every new upload will be a Reel, and users get to mix it up with cool filters, music, or effects. Plus, there’s no cap on length—go short, go long, shoot vertical or horizontal, everything is possible. And the “Video” tab is getting a glow-up to become the “Reels Tab” to match this style.

Meta promises the algorithm that picks videos for users' feeds won’t skip a beat, so users’ll still see stuff they’re into. Old videos on users profiles or Pages won’t change, but anything new will roll out as a Reel. It’s a one-stop shop for posting, which should make things way simpler.

Meta is nudging everyone to peek at their privacy settings. Reels often default to public, unlike some videos you might share just with friends, so users might want to see who sees there stuff.

Instagram did something like this back in 2022, turning shorter videos into Reels, and now Facebook’s following suit. Dropping the old 90-second Reel limit means Meta’s ready to go head-to-head with TikTok while letting creators more room to do their thing, no matter the length. This is all about making Facebook videos more fun and creative, whether user’s sharing a quick moment or a full-on story.
