Marvel Studios has announced a significant shift in its release schedule, pushing back the highly anticipated films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 2026 and December 2027, respectively. Originally slated for May 1, 2026, Doomsday will now hit theaters on December 18, 2026, while Secret Wars, initially set for May 7, 2027, is rescheduled for December 17, 2027, according to Variety.

Key Highlights:

  • Avengers: Doomsday is pushed to December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars to December 17, 2027, in a holiday-focused strategy.
  • Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom, with the Russo Brothers directing both Doomsday and Secret Wars.
  • Marvel clears its 2026 slate to spotlight its Multiverse Saga, lining up Doomsday against Dune: Messiah

Doomsday, which is already filming in London, brings back Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe—not as Tony Stark but as the menacing Doctor Doom. The Russo Brothers, the masterminds behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, are directing both movies, and they’re crafting a massive two-part adventure packed with MCU favorites, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four.

Marvel’s also clearing out its 2026 schedule, dropping some unannounced projects to spotlight Doomsday and Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This holiday release strategy worked wonders for Spider-Man: No Way Home, though Doomsday will go head-to-head with Dune: Messiah in December 2026.

Fans are hyped after a March 2025 livestream dropped a killer cast list, featuring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and the Fantastic Four: First Steps gang. X is buzzing with chatter—some leaks even tease Madripoor scenes and wild X-Men showdowns. While some fans are cool with the delay, hoping it means better films, others are bummed about waiting longer for the Multiverse Saga’s big finish.
