Lando Norris Takes Championship Lead with Stunning Win in Mexico
Lando Norris put on a driving clinic at the Mexico City Grand Prix, leading from start to finish and grabbing the Formula 1 championship lead for the first time since early in the season.
The McLaren star was untouchable, crossing the line 30 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, with Max Verstappen rounding out the podium for Red Bull.
Norris now sits one point ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri, who had a tough day and could only manage fifth after a bad start dropped him down the order. Verstappen, the defending champion, is 36 points back with just four races to go.
This win is a huge moment for Norris. Back in August, a mechanical failure in the Netherlands left him 34 points behind Piastri and looking out of the title fight. But he’s been rock-solid since, racking up strong finishes while Piastri hit a rough patch with mistakes and bad luck.

“This has easily been my best performance,” Norris said post-race. “Zandvoort is still clear in my head, but I’ve focused on consistency against quick guys around me.”
British rookie Oliver Bearman shone in fourth for Haas — his best result yet — while Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli came sixth. Lewis Hamilton, now with Ferrari, finished eighth after a 10-second penalty for cutting the track while battling Verstappen.
McLaren’s car was kind to its tires on Mexico’s rough surface, letting Norris push hard without worry. The team has already clinched the constructors’ title, and now both drivers are in the hunt for the drivers’ crown — the team’s first since 2008.

With 116 points still up for grabs, the championship is wide open. Norris has the momentum, but Piastri and Verstappen aren’t giving up. Next stop: Brazil.
