JioStar Rebrands ESPNcricinfo Back to Cricinfo

By Media Infotainment Team | Wednesday, 24 June 2026

JioStar has officially rebranded ESPNcricinfo as Cricinfo, marking a significant change following the integration of media assets under the Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company India merger.

  • JioStar rebrands ESPNcricinfo, reviving the platform’s original Cricinfo identity after merger.
  • Cricinfo plans AI-powered innovations while preserving editorial independence and cricket heritage.
  • Existing ESPNcricinfo users will experience seamless access through automatic website redirection.

The move is aimed at restoring the platform's original identity, bringing it back to the Cricinfo name that it was launched in 1993. The rebranding is part of the operational restructuring and brand alignment agreed upon as part of the merger framework.

In spite of the name change, the platform has had no changes in the features that it offers. The site, mobile apps, live scores, analysis, statistics, and editorial will be available to cricket fans as usual. All current links, bookmarks and traffic from espncricinfo.com will be redirected to the site.

Speaking about the changeover, Cricinfo’s Editor-in-Chief Sambit Bal expressed his continued dedication to delivering cricket content to fans around the world and looking forward to the digital future.

He emphasized, "Cricinfo will persist in solidifying its reputation as the premier hub for cricket coverage and would be able to bring in more AI-related features to improve storytelling and user experience, alongside its commitment to original journalism and comprehensive coverage of the sport."

Established over 30 years ago, Cricinfo has grown to become one of the world's richest cricket databases and editorial websites, boasting a vast collection of matches, player records, statistics and historical information. The rebranding is in line with the company's heritage and future plans as it moves on to a new phase in JioStar's media portfolio, the company said.

The move highlights JioStar's wider business ethics of re-aligning its sports and entertainment portfolio, and the use of technology and innovation to create more audience engagement through digital channels.
