Cricket has always carried political undertones, but rarely has the sport's spirit been overshadowed as starkly as in the 2025 Asia Cup final. Played under the warm skies of Dubai, the tournament concluded with India defending its title and asserting regional supremacy. In the final held on September 28, India clinched a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in a tense, low-scoring match.

Pakistan looked strong early in their innings, reaching 84 for 1 in under 10 overs. However, their batting collapsed spectacularly, losing 9 wickets for just 62 runs. Indian spinners played a key role in this turnaround. Still, India’s chase of 147 didn’t begin well either  the top three batters were dismissed with just 20 runs on the board.

Key Highlights:

  • India wins Asia Cup 2025, beating Pakistan thrice, remains unbeaten throughout.
  • Pakistan collapses after strong start; Indian spinners shift momentum decisively.
  • Indian team snubs handshakes, trophy amid political tensions with Pakistan.

As the pressure mounted, India unearthed fresh heroes. Tilak Varma anchored the innings with an unbeaten 69, while Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube played crucial supporting roles. India secured the win with just two balls remaining, ending the tournament unbeaten and defeating Pakistan for the third time in the campaign.

Yet, this triumph was clouded by controversy. Throughout the tournament, the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, reportedly avoided post-match handshakes with the Pakistani squad. The situation escalated when the Indian players declined to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board and serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister.

While the lingering fallout from the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor may explain the underlying tensions, critics have called the Indian team’s actions on the field unsportsmanlike, casting a shadow over an otherwise dominant performance.
