Barcelona clinched a hard-fought 2-1 win against Real Sociedad on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, moving them to the top of La Liga by a single point.

The match marked the eagerly awaited return of 17-year-old star Lamine Yamal, whose spark off the bench proved crucial for the Spanish champions.

The game kicked off with Barcelona controlling the ball but struggling to break down Real Sociedad’s tight defense.

Goalkeeper Alex Remiro denied an early chance from Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, who linked up well with Robert Lewandowski.

Against the run of play, Real Sociedad took the lead in the 31st minute. Alvaro Odriozola finished off a quick counter-attack, latching onto a cross from Ander Barrenetxea to stun the home crowd.

Barcelona fought back just before halftime. Rashford’s well-placed corner found Jules Kounde, who rose high to head the ball past Remiro, tying the score at 1-1. At halftime, coach Hansi Flick shook things up, bringing on Dani Olmo and Yamal, who was back after missing four games with a groin injury. Yamal wasted no time making an impact. Shortly after entering, the teenager set up the winning goal with a precise pass to Lewandowski, who calmly slotted it home to put Barcelona ahead 2-1.

Flick was full of praise for Yamal, saying, “He came on and immediately showed his incredible ability to create chances.” Kounde agreed, highlighting Yamal’s importance to the team’s goals. Despite playing at the Olympic Stadium due to permit issues delaying their return to Camp Nou, Barcelona showed grit. Newcomers Dro Fernandez and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny also stepped up, proving the squad’s depth.
