India Clinch Third ICC T20 World Cup Title Victory Over New Zealand

India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, winning their third T20 World Cup title.

This victory marked the first time a team retained the T20 World Cup on home soil, further cementing India’s dominance in the shortest format of the game.

India, put into bat, posted a total of 255/5 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson played a brilliant knock of 89, with support from Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who both contributed with quickfire innings.

The Indian batsmen continued to put pressure on New Zealand, hitting frequent boundaries and sixes in the middle and late overs.

New Zealand’s chase never gained momentum, as India’s bowlers kept them in check. Jasprit Bumrah led the way with a stellar performance, taking 4/15, while Axar Patel also impressed with 3 wickets. Despite a valiant half-century from Mitchell Santner, New Zealand were dismissed for 159 in 19 overs.

Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his outstanding spell, while Samson was awarded Player of the Tournament for his consistent performances throughout the competition. India’s dominant bowling effort, combined with their explosive batting, secured a comprehensive win in front of a packed crowd.
