Barcelona Crushed 4-1 by Sevilla in La Liga Shock

By Media Infotainment Team | Monday, 06 October 2025

Barcelona squandered the opportunity to return to the top of La Liga after suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Sevilla, marking their worst loss to the Andalusian side since 1951.

A win would have seen the defending champions leapfrog Real Madrid, but Hansi Flick’s side were comprehensively outplayed.

Sevilla took the lead early when former Barca winger Alexis Sanchez converted from the penalty spot after Ronald Araujo fouled Isaac Romero. Romero doubled the advantage with a sharp finish following a swift counter-attack.

Key Highlights

  • Sevilla beat Barcelona 4-1, their first league win over them in a decade
  • Lewandowski missed a key penalty as Rashford’s goal went in vain
  • Barca’s worst loss to Sevilla since 1951 leaves them two points behind Real

Barcelona briefly regained hope when Marcus Rashford volleyed home in first-half stoppage time from a Pedri cross.

Despite increased pressure after the break, Barcelona failed to capitalise, with Robert Lewandowski missing a crucial penalty, dragging his shot wide after Adnan Januzaj fouled Alejandro Balde. Sevilla’s disciplined defence held firm before late strikes from Jose Angel Carmona and Akor Adams sealed an emphatic win.

The result compounds a miserable week for Barcelona, who also suffered a Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain midweek. Flick’s men remain two points behind leaders Real Madrid and now face mounting pressure to rediscover form. Sevilla, meanwhile, climbed to fifth but risk dropping a spot if Atletico Madrid beat Celta Vigo later.

This defeat raises questions over Barcelona’s consistency, with their first league loss of the campaign exposing defensive frailties and wasted attacking opportunities.
