Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Shines with 93 Crore Global Opening Weekend

The most recent movie of Aamir Khan, Sitaare Zameen Par, has been storming the box office, and has made an impressive 93 crores worldwide, in its first weekend. The film, directed by RS Prasanna, was released on June 20 and it is an excellent comeback of Khan, whose last big-screen success was Secret Superstar (2017). The spiritual follow-up of the 2007 masterpiece Taare Zameen Par has struck chords among the viewers, which has united dramatics with a sportsfocused theme.  

 As reported by industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie earned 19.5 crores on its first day, rose 34.3 crores on Saturday, and stabilised with 40 crores on Sunday. The film earned about 68 crore (US$1.2 million) in India and USD 2.23 million (~25 crore) in international markets, especially doing well in North America and Australia. The powerful first day market ranks Sitaare Zameen Par no. 3 in Hindi film first day openings of 2025 only behind Sikandar of Salman Khan (Rs 26 crore on Day 1). 

 The movie is focused on Gulshan Arora (Khan), an exiled basketball coach, who must coach neurodivergent athletes to compete in a national tournament. The film stars Genelia Deshmukh, and features ten newcomers, and has been appreciated with its emotional story of inclusiveness and self-development. Some critics like The Times of India (3.5/5 stars) had praised its light-hearted treatment with sensitivity when dealing with intellectual disabilities terming it as a wholesome, feel good watch.

 And even though it had a low-key opening compared to historic Khan blockbusters such as Dangal, the favorable reviews gave it a Day 3 increment of 103 percentage. This movie had surpassed Housefull 5 starring Akshay Kumar in its third week indicating a wide appeal among the audience. The trade analysts have forecast a long run and weekdays play a key role in India in order to achieve a 120 crore milestone on moderate grounds. Having the widest release in June and no big releases scheduled until June 27, the film is set to take off and this theatrical is set to be bright.
