The Last of Us is coming back! HBO’s hit show, based on the popular video game, kicks off its second season on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. You can catch it on HBO or stream it on Max. After the first season won over audiences with Joel and Ellie’s emotional journey, Season 2 is ready to take things to the next level.

This time, we’ll get seven episodes, dropping every Sunday night until the finale on May 25, 2025. The story jumps five years ahead from where we left off. Joel (played by Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) are dealing with the aftermath of some tough choices from Season 1. Things between them aren’t as tight as they used to be, and the world around them is getting even rougher. Expect plenty of heart-wrenching moments and new dangers.

Season 2 brings in some exciting new characters. Kaitlyn Dever steps in as Abby, a major player from the second game, The Last of Us Part II. Isabela Merced plays Dina, Young Mazino is Jesse, and Jeffrey Wright takes on Isaac. Plus, Catherine O’Hara pops up in a role that’s got everyone curious. The show was filmed in Vancouver to nail that Pacific Northwest vibe, and Craig Mazin, who co-created the series with game writer Neil Druckmann, directs the first episode, called “Future Days” a sweet nod to a song fans will recognize.

Mazin has teased that this season trades the first season’s focus on love for a heavier look at revenge. Since Part II has a bigger story, Season 2 only covers part of it, and a third season is already in the works. Some folks are even guessing we might get a fourth to wrap it all up. With trailers already smashing records, it’s clear people are pumped.
