YouTube to Remove Clickbait Videos from Indian Creators Soon
YouTube strictens norms in front of Indian users and content creators who upload videos with "egregious clickbait" in their title or thumbnail.
“Egregious clickbait occurs when the video’s title or thumbnail includes promises or claims that aren’t delivered within the video itself, especially when that content focuses on breaking news or current events,” Alphabet owned company stated in a social media post on Wednesday, December 18.
It also stated that content with the egregious clickbait could “leave viewers feeling tricked, frustrated, or even misled – particularly in moments when they come to YouTube in search for important or timely information.”
The statement by the platform clearly denotes that such YouTube videos talking about breaking news or current events will be monitored.
Therefore, it is now against YouTube's policy for titling a video with a catchy title like 'The President Resigned' or 'Top Political News' in the thumbnail simply to attract users to click the video.
What actions will YouTube take?
At first, YouTube said it would take down content with the promises of the title or thumbnail that didn't support what the video offered. However, the platform has also promised not to issue a strike against the Channel to give users time to adapt to the revised policy.
YouTube has still not clearly defined videos on breaking news or current events regarding how it will address content that displays egregious clickbait, and it has not said what actions users will need to take to appeal content takedown of restoration.
