SWA Awards 2025 Honor India's Top Screenwriters
The 6th Screenwriters Association Awards (SWA Awards 2025) held in Mumbai highlighted the best of Indian screenwriting for films, TV shows and streaming platforms.
The event acknowledged excellence in 15 categories, with 15-member strong screenwriting jury scrutinizing over 1500 entries in seven months.
Imtiaz Ali’s "Amar Singh Chamkila" led the film categories runnings away with three major awards. The musical drama starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, bagged Best Story and Best Screenplay for Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali alongwith Best Lyrics for Irshad Kamil’s soulful Baaja.
The movie’s sentimental storyline and catchy songs of the film swayed both audiences and judges to hit the movie nearly sweeping the movie awards.
On the other hand, Kunal Kemmu, popular as he is for his acting, made waves as an accomplished writer for the first time, getting the Best Dialogue award for his directorial debut Madgaon Express.

In a rare and exciting moment, the Best Debut (Film) category ended in a three-way tie. Shuchi Talati (Girls Will Be Girls), Biplab Goswami and Sneha Desai (Laapataa Ladies), and Bodhayan Roychaudhury (Sector 36) shared the honor, proving that new talent is thriving in Indian cinema.
The OTT and TV categories were just as competitive. Freedom at Midnight, a historical drama directed by Nikkhil Advani, took home Best Story and Best Screenplay for its writers Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, and Revanta Sarabhai. In the comedy and romance space, Khyati Anand-Puthran won big, earning Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue for Raat Jawan Hai. On the TV side, Jubilee Talkies grabbed Best Story, while Anupamaa won Best Dialogue.
