Sunrisers Hyderabad Pull Off Epic Win Against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured a historic five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, marking their first-ever win against CSK at Chepauk in IPL history. The match, the 43rd of IPL 2025, saw SRH chase down CSK’s modest total of 154, keeping their playoff hopes alive while pushing CSK to the brink of elimination.

CSK, with the iconic MS Dhoni leading the charge in his 400th T20 match, had a rough start after SRH opted to bowl. Harshal Patel was unstoppable, snagging four wickets for just 28 runs and ripping through CSK’s lineup. They crumbled to 154 all out in 19.5 overs. Dewald Brevis gave fans some hope with a fiery 42 off 25 balls, and Ayush Mhatre added a quick 30 off 19. Deepak Hooda tried to spark a late rally with a cheeky scooped four, but SRH’s bowlers, including Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat with two wickets apiece, kept things under control.

SRH’s chase hit a snag early when Abhishek Sharma got out for a duck after facing just two balls, courtesy of Khaleel Ahmed. But Ishan Kishan dug in with a hard-fought 44, and Travis Head kept things steady. Even when Heinrich Klaasen fell and the tension ramped up, Kamindu Mendis (32 not out) and Nitish Reddy stayed cool, teaming up for an unbeaten 49-run stand to seal the win with eight balls to go. Harshal Patel, who earned Player of the Match, said the plan was to make CSK’s batters struggle with awkward shots on a tricky pitch.

This loss hit CSK hard. With just two wins in nine games, they’re stuck at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table, their playoff chances slipping away. Dhoni, looking gutted, admitted they were about 15-20 runs short on a decent pitch. This win was a game-changer for SRH, now up to ninth, with Cummins cheering the team’s all-out effort.
