Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) put on a stellar show, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 42 runs in an exciting IPL 2025 Match 65 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The game was moved from Bengaluru due to heavy rain, and SRH’s powerful batting, led by Ishan Kishan, proved too much for RCB’s playoff hopes.

Key Highlights:

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 42 runs in Match 65, powered by Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 94
  • RCB’s strong chase crumbled after Eshan Malinga’s double strike and Pat Cummins’ 3-wicket haul, ending at 189 all out
  • The loss dented RCB’s top-two hopes as they slipped to third place, while SRH played party spoilers with a dominant show

After RCB won the toss and chose to bowl, SRH piled on 231/6, thanks to Kishan’s blazing unbeaten 94 off 48 balls, packed with boundaries and sixes. Travis Head (17) and Abhishek Sharma gave a quick start, while Romario Shepherd picked up two wickets for RCB, though SRH’s aggressive batting set a tough target.

RCB’s chase started strong with Phil Salt’s fiery 62 off 32 and Virat Kohli’s quick 43 off 25. Stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma, filling in for the injured Rajat Patidar, chipped in with 24 off 15, keeping RCB in the game. At 163/3 after 14 overs, they looked set to chase it down, but Eshan Malinga’s double blow in the 15th over changed everything. Malinga dismissed Shepherd for a duck and ran out Patidar, sparking a collapse. Pat Cummins (3/28) mopped up the tail, including Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, as RCB fell to 189 in 19.5 overs, losing their last seven wickets for just 16 runs.

The loss hurt RCB’s chances of a top-two finish, leaving them third with 17 points, behind Gujarat Titans (18) and Punjab Kings (17), with a weaker net run rate. SRH, already out of the playoffs, showed their batting strength, with Kishan named Player of the Match.
