In a high-octane clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 33 runs in Match 64 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on May 22, 2025. LSG’s commanding performance, led by Mitchell Marsh’s maiden IPL century and Nicholas Pooran’s explosive fifty, dashed GT’s hopes of securing a top-two finish.

Key Highlights:

  • Mitchell Marsh’s 117 leads LSG to big win as GT stumble in Ahmedabad

LSG batted first after GT’s captain Shubman Gill chose to bowl, and they racked up an impressive 235/2 in 20 overs. Marsh smashed 117 runs off 64 balls, while Pooran’s unbeaten 56 off 27 added serious firepower. Aiden Markram chipped in with 36, and Rishabh Pant added a quick 16 not out. LSG’s innings featured 17 sixes and 17 fours, overwhelming GT’s bowlers, despite efforts from Arshad Khan and R Sai Kishore.

Chasing 236, GT got off to a solid start with openers Gill and Sai Sudharsan. But Will O’Rourke struck early, dismissing Sudharsan for 21. Gill scored 35 and Jos Buttler added 33, but both fell quickly, leaving GT at 75/3 after six overs. A fighting 86-run stand between Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan, who blasted a 22-ball fifty, kept GT in the game. However, LSG’s bowlers, led by O’Rourke and Akash Deep, held firm, limiting GT to 202/9.

The win ended LSG’s run of four straight losses, though they’re already out of the playoff race. For GT, who have 18 points and a playoff spot secured, the defeat hurt their chances of finishing in the top two, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings hot on their heels at 17 points each. Gill admitted afterward, “We let about 15-20 extra runs slip through.”
