The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently announced that the Pataudi Trophy will be rebranded as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. Previously, whenever a Test series between the two teams was played in England, it was for the Pataudi Trophy, but the ECB had already decided to retire the name.

Tendulkar wants the Pataudi Trophy's legacy to continue

However, according to Cricbuzz, Sachin Tendulkar has taken matters into his own hands and has asked both the ECB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider and carry on the Pataudi Trophy legacy.

The report also stated that International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah has played an important role in ensuring that the upcoming England-India Test series is played for the Pataudi Trophy rather than the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.

"Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series," an ECB official told Cricbuzz.

Notably, it was reported that the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy would be presented on the fourth day of the World Test Championship (WTC) final between South Africa and Australia, which was just finished, at London's Lord's Stadium. But after the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, which killed 241 people, the unveiling was delayed.

As the new WTC cycle begins, the forthcoming five-match Test series between England and India will be important for both sides. For the first time since 2007, the Men in Blue will also be attempting to win a Test series on English soil.

Before the series, former captain Rohit Sharma and star cricketer Virat Kohli announced unexpected retirement from Test cricket. Because of this, BCCI was forced to name a new captain right before the important assignment. They chose to name Shubman Gill, a 25-year-old who had never captained the team in red-ball cricket, captain.

In addition, the selection committee made several changes to the team that India used in their most recent Test match, a five-match Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, and added new players Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh to the 18-man roster. Under an inexperienced captain like Gill, it will be interesting to watch how the team fills the void left by Virat and Rohit.
