Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally broke their 10-year losing streak at Wankhede Stadium, edging out Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs in an exciting IPL 2025 match on Monday. MI put up a tough fight chasing 222 but finished at 209/9, thanks to some clutch bowling by RCB in the final moments.

The game kicked off with MI captain Hardik Pandya winning the toss and choosing to bowl, hoping the dew would make chasing easier. But RCB’s batsmen came out swinging. Virat Kohli smashed 67 off 42 balls, and skipper Rajat Patidar blasted 64 off 32. Jitesh Sharma chipped in with a quick 40 not out off 19 balls, hitting boundaries left and right to push RCB to 221/5. MI’s Trent Boult (2/57) and Hardik (2/45) tried to keep things under control.

MI’s chase got off to a rocky start when Rohit Sharma got bowled for 17 by Yash Dayal in the second over. Suryakumar Yadav (28) kept hopes alive, but it was Hardik (42 off 15) and Tilak Varma (56 off 29) who really turned up the heat with a 98-run stand. With 19 needed off the last over, it felt like MI might pull it off. Then, RCB threw a curveball, Krunal Pandya, Hardik’s brother, stepped up to bowl. He took out Deepak Chahar and three more, flipping the game and handing RCB their first Wankhede win over MI since 2015.

RCB’s third win in four games has them looking strong early in IPL 2025. MI, even with Jasprit Bumrah back (1/29), couldn’t get it together in the end. Hardik said afterward he was proud of the team’s effort but bummed about the late stumble. RCB’s riding high into their next match, while MI’s got some work to do at home.
