Real Madrid secured their position in the Club World Cup last 16 as they dominated RB Salzburg 3-0 in their Group H opener at Lincoln Financial Field and finished at the top of the group to knock their German opponents out of the competition. The game was an illustration of the attacking capability and flexibility of Madrid with new manager, Xabi Alonso.

The first half started with Carlos Vinicius completing a fantastic combination between Jude Bellingham and himself to bring Madrid ahead after scoring. Just a few minutes later, Vinicius became the provider by creating a good opportunity to Federico Valverde who scored the second goal. The Spanish giants clinched the game in the late stages of the match when Gonzalo Garcia marked a beautiful chipped finish over Salzburg goalkeeper, Christian Zawieschitzky to make sure that they were comfortable winners.

Madrid’s performance was a marked improvement from their earlier 1-1 draw against Al Hilal, where they struggled to find rhythm. Alonso’s side demonstrated adaptability, with the manager praising their ability to switch to a back-three system. “We want to be flexible and understand different systems,” Alonso told DAZN post-match. Vinicius Junior, named Superior Player of the Match, emphasized the team’s collective effort, stating, “It’s a pleasure to play in this competition. This award is a reward for all the team’s hard work.”

RB Salzburg, whose scoreline was the same as that of Madrid prior to the game, was unable to keep up their quality and were ousted as Al Hilal secured second place in Group H with a 2-0 victory over Pachuca. Madrid has progressed to the knockout phase, where they will play against Juventus which is eagerly awaited. Having already won the Club World Cup five times already, Madrid are no pushover towards trying to add a sixth crown to their trophy cases.
