Rapido Launches Ownly Food App in Bengaluru with New Campaign

Ride-hailing platform Rapido has entered the food delivery market with the launch of its new app, Ownly, in Bengaluru. The launch is supported by a marketing campaign that highlights transparent pricing and a restaurant-friendly business model.

The Bengaluru rollout follows a seven-month pilot conducted in areas such as Koramangala, HSR Layout and BTM Layout. During the pilot phase, the company tested its food delivery service and gathered feedback from restaurant partners and customers before expanding the service across the city.

Ownly is built around a zero-commission model for restaurants, a structure that differs from most food delivery platforms in India.

Large aggregators typically charge restaurants commissions ranging from 16% to 30% per order. Rapido says Ownly will not take a commission from restaurants and will instead depend on delivery fees for revenue.

To promote the platform, Rapido has launched a campaign titled “Food Promise.” The campaign film uses a courtroom-style narrative to question common industry practices such as hidden charges, inflated menu prices and complicated discount structures. Through the campaign, Ownly presents itself as a platform focused on simpler pricing for customers and better margins for restaurants.

Rapido co-founder Aravind Sanka said the platform is designed to address concerns raised by restaurant partners about commission structures on existing online food ordering apps. He added that food ordering has become a regular part of urban life, creating room for alternative models that balance customer convenience with restaurant sustainability.

The move marks Rapido’s expansion beyond its core mobility services. The company began as a bike taxi platform and has since added auto rides, cab services, parcel deliveries and last-mile logistics solutions. With Ownly, Rapido plans to use its existing network of two-wheeler riders to support food deliveries.

The launch also introduces new competition in India’s online food delivery market, which is currently dominated by a small number of large players. Industry analysts say a commission-free model could appeal to independent restaurants that are seeking lower platform costs.

For now, the service is limited to Bengaluru. Rapido is expected to assess user adoption, restaurant participation and operational performance in the city before considering expansion to other markets in India.
