Piastri Triumphs in Dramatic Dutch GP as Norris Retires, Hamilton Crashes
Oscar Piastri pulled off an incredible win at the Dutch Grand Prix, making the most of a chaotic race that saw Lando Norris drop out and Lewis Hamilton crash out spectacularly.
The McLaren driver stayed cool under pressure at Zandvoort, grabbing his second career victory and shaking up the Formula 1 championship fight.
The race kicked off with high hopes for Norris, who started from pole position. But a slow start cost him the lead to teammate Piastri right at the first corner.
Things went from bad to worse for Norris when his McLaren suffered a mechanical failure on lap 28, forcing him to retire. Visibly gutted, Norris now faces a tougher road in the drivers’ championship.
Hamilton had a dramatic day. The seven-time winner, who had dropped to 14th following a qualifying penalty, was weaving his way through the field when he crashed into Haas on lap 42 driven by Kevin Magnussen.

The impact with the barriers propelled Hamilton into his Mercedes and the safety car appeared and terminated his race. To make matters worse, stewards faulted Hamilton and fined him five seconds.
Piastri, however, dealt with the insanity as a professional. The young Australian remained calm, despite restarts, and controlled his tires to perfection to pass Max Verstappen of Red Bull, who won second. Verstappen gave himself a lead in the championship but failed to overtake Piastri during the final laps. Charles Leclerc of Ferrari remained on course to take third, finishing off the podium.
This race shook up the season’s storyline. Verstappen’s lead over Norris grew, while Piastri’s win showed McLaren’s on the rise. Hamilton, now further behind, has work to do with Mercedes’ upgrades. After the race, Piastri was thrilled, saying, “The team nailed it today. This feels amazing.” Verstappen stayed focused, adding, “Second’s good, but we’re not done yet.”
