OnePlus Fined Rs 5,000 for Not Providing User Manual
OnePlus, the tech giant, has been fined Rs 5,000 by a consumer panel in Bengaluru for not providing a user manual with a smartphone purchase, leaving the customer without providing essential warranty details.
A report reveals that the issue was obtained when SM Ramesh, a resident of Sanjay Nagar in north Bengaluru, purchased a OnePlus Nord CE 3 for Rs 24,598 in December 2022.
Ramesh reportedly filed a complaint in June this year, highlighting difficulties in accessing crucial information, including the phone’s warranty details and the company’s address. Although OnePlus provided the user manual in April, four months after his purchase, Ramesh sought redress through the city's consumer disputes redressal commission. He claimed a "deficiency in service," stating that the absence of the manual caused him considerable inconvenience.
The commission has ruled on 29 November that OnePlus India is guilty of “sheer negligence and indifference” in the terms of the complaint made by Ramesh. The commission also directed OnePlus India to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 to Ramesh for delayed provision of documentation.
In addition, OnePlus has addressed the longstanding green line display issue that has affected many users. To reassure its customer base, the company has now extended a lifetime warranty on all its models.
Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, stated that "Last year, we took a bold step by being the first smartphone brand to offer a lifetime warranty for our older models to support affected users. Building on that, we're excited to extend this warranty to every OnePlus phone, reinforcing our belief in the quality and reliability of our products. More importantly, as a community-driven brand, we hope these measures provide users with a worry-free experience throughout the lifespan of their OnePlus devices."
