The major auction for the future season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) is expected to take place in Riyadh at the end of November.

All 10 IPL franchises have submitted their list of retained players for IPL 2025. The franchises have retained players they believe will be vital for the IPL 2025, and the attention now switches to the blockbuster auction.

According to reports, the IPL auction will be held in Riyadh from November 24th-25th.

The retention lists for all ten franchises for the IPL season 2025 were finally revealed last week including Jos Buttler, Aiden Markram, Glenn Maxwell, Faf Du Plessis, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and many others, being allowed to enter the auction by their respective franchises.

The franchises retained 46 players while investing a total of Rs 558.5 crore. Out of the 46 players retained across all teams, 36 are Indian. Ten of the layers are uncapped Indian talents.

Ahead of the IPL 2025, three Indian stars will be available for captaincy positions in clubs looking for a new captain. Kolkata Knight Riders released Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals released Rishabh Pant, and Lucknow Super Giants did the same for KL Rahul.

Notably, no English players were retained by clubs this season. Several prominent players, including Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Harry Brook, Phil Salt, and Will Jacks, were released.

Five time champions Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma have all agreed to stay with the Mumbai Indians. There were rumors that the franchise might also sign Ishan Kishan, however he was not added to their roster.

This retention plan enables MI to keep a strong Indian contingent while leaving them with Rs 45 crore to strengthen their team in the auction.

In comparison, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been more picky, keeping only three players. Virat Kohli, alongside Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal, has the highest retention fee of Rs 21 crore. This strategy leaves RCB with the second-largest purse at Rs 83 crore.

The Punjab Kings have stunned many by deciding not to keep any capped players. Their two retentions, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh, represent a turn toward developing new talent. The top purse remained at Rs 110.5 crore.

The Rajasthan Royals have basically established their batting ground, maintaining a solid lineup while seeking for an additional opener. It will be entering the auction with the lowest bid of Rs 41 crore.

MS Dhoni will return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcomming season of IPL, having been kept as an uncapped player by the five-time champions.

CSK's strategy is anticipated to rely on combining experienced players with new talent, retaining the balance that has propelled their previous success. In addition to Dhoni, the team has retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana.
