Instagram Adds AI Editing Tools Directly to Stories

Instagram users can now edit their Stories with Meta’s AI tools right inside the app, no extra steps needed. Instagram lets you change photos and videos using simple text commands.

Tap the paintbrush icon in Stories, choose “Restyle,” and pick options like “add,” “remove,” or “change.” Then type what you want. The AI makes it happen instantly.

You can also use ready-made effects, like turning a photo into a watercolor painting, adding falling confetti to a video, or changing your hair color.

It all works directly in the Stories editor, unlike before when you had to message the Meta AI bot separately.

The tools scan your image—including faces—to understand what to edit. Meta says this follows its AI privacy rules. The update is part of a bigger push into AI features.

Last month, Meta launched “Vibes,” a short video feed powered by AI, which quickly grew to millions of daily users. Earlier this month, new parental controls were added to manage teen interactions with AI characters.

The feature is rolling out now, though it may not be available everywhere at once. For Instagram’s 1.4 billion monthly users, it means faster, more creative Stories without leaving the app.

With TikTok and others also adding AI effects, Meta is clearly working to keep Instagram fresh and fun—especially for younger users who love quick, eye-catching content. Now, a simple selfie can become a work of art with just a few words.
