India's 'The Night Manager' Loses at the 2024 International Emmy Awards

The 52nd International Emmy Awards in number, were awarded on November 25, 2024, in New York City, which paid homage to pioneers of global television entertainments. That evening highlighted the best titles that raced ahead of competition. Making history this year was Indian stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das as the first Indian ever to host the coveted event.

IATAS Day for the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was held at the New York Hilton Midtown, where the ceremony streamed live across America during this time - 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM EST. Indian audiences, on the other hand, would be able to tune into the awards from 3:30 AM to 9:30 AM IST on Tuesday, November 26.

It has now been possible to bring to the world a beautiful collection of 56 nominations from 21 different countries for the 2024 Emmy Awards, thus enriching the worldwide perspective of this Abrahamic institution as a platform that caters to the best television productions around the globe. The awards fall into 14 categories: Arts Programming, Best Actor, Best Actress, Comedy, and Documentary, as well as Drama Series, Kids Animation, Kids Factual & Entertainment, Kids Live Action, Best Non-Scripted Entertainment Short-Form Series, Sports Documentary, Telenovela, TV Movie/Mini-Series. 

That Indians received only a single entry this year in the drive was drama, The Night Manager, directed by Sandeep Modi, featuring Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Anil Kapoor. The series was nominated in the Drama category but sadly lost to French drama Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God). The Night Manager is an Indian remake of the British series of the same name released in two parts in 2023 and was much- celebrated among people. The original British version had earlier had three Golden Globes and two Primetime Emmy Awards in 2016.

  • Non-Scripted Entertainment: Restaurant Misverstand – Season 2 (Belgium)

  • Sports Documentary: Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story (United Kingdom)

  • Short-Form Series: Punt de no retorn (Point of No Return) (Spain)

  • Kids: Live-Action: En af Drengene (One of the Boys) (Denmark)

  • Kids: Factual & Entertainment: La Vida Secreta de tu Mente (The Secret Life of Your Mind) (Mexico)

  • Kids: Animation: Tabby McTat (United Kingdom)

  • TV Movie/Mini-Series: Liebes Kind (Dear Child) (Germany)

  • Comedy: Divisi³n Palermo (Argentina)

  • Best Performance by an Actor: Timothy Spall for The Sixth Commandment (United Kingdom)

  • Telenovela: La Promesa (The Vow) (Colombia)

  • Documentary: Otto Baxter: Not A F**ing Horror Story (United Kingdom)

  • Drama Series: Les Gouttes de Dieu (Drops of God) (France)
