Google Gemini Adds 'Personal Intelligence' for App-Based Use
Google has introduced a new capability in its Gemini assistant called Personal Intelligence, aimed at enabling app-based personalisation by allowing users to connect Gemini with their Google apps.
The feature is being rolled out in beta in the United States for subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra, with plans to expand access over time.
With Personal Intelligence, users can choose to link selected Google apps such as Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search to Gemini.
Once connected, Gemini can use information from these apps to respond to queries that require personal context.
For instance, users can ask for reminders based on past emails, request summaries of information stored across apps, or get recommendations that draw on their activity history.

Google says the feature is designed to reduce the need for manual searching across different apps by allowing Gemini to reference relevant information when responding to prompts. The company positions this update as part of its broader effort to make Gemini more useful in day-to-day tasks such as planning, organising information, and recalling past activity.
Privacy controls remain central to the rollout. Personal Intelligence is turned off by default, and users must explicitly opt in to connect their apps. Google states that users can disconnect apps at any time and manage or delete activity used for personalisation. The company has also clarified that Gemini does not directly access or store full email inboxes or photo libraries, and that any data used to improve its systems is anonymised and aggregated.
The feature will be available across web, Android and iOS platforms. Google has not shared a specific timeline for wider international availability but confirmed that the beta rollout will expand gradually.

The update reflects a growing focus among technology companies on deeper digital personalisation by integrating assistants more closely with users’ existing digital services, particularly within closed ecosystems such as Google’s suite of apps.
