Fox News Suggests a Second Harris-Trump Debate for October
Fox News has proposed hosting a second presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in October, the network confirmed. They have sent a letter to both campaigns suggesting a 90-minute debate moderated by anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, asserting that they would be the ideal choices for the event.
Fox News made its offer for a second presidential debate shortly after Harris and Trump concluded their first debate on September 10 in Philadelphia. During the debate, aired by ABC News, the Republican and Democratic nominees engaged in frequent confrontations while discussing major topics such as the economy, energy, abortion, immigration, and foreign policy, including the conflict in Ukraine.
“Now that the first debate is underway between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, FOX News Media is re-upping its proposal,” FOX News Media’s President Jay Wallace and Vice President of Politics Jessica Loker wrote in the letter, according to the publication.
“As the Harris Campaign has stated, the American people will have another opportunity to see both on stage in October,” the letter continued.
Wallace and Loker suggested three possible dates and locations for the debate: October 9 in Arizona, October 15 in Georgia, and October 16 in North Carolina.
Earlier in May, Fox News had proposed hosting a debate between Trump and Harris, sending invitations to both campaigns. While Trump had agreed to the proposed debate, Harris indicated that both she and her Republican opponent had already committed to the ABC News debate.
Immediately after Tuesday’s debate ended, Harris’s campaign chair, Jen O’Malley Dillon, stated that the vice president was prepared for a second debate.
Harris Seeks a Rematch with Trump
In an interview with Fox News following the debate, Trump described it as “our best debate ever” and mentioned he would consider a second debate with Harris. He suggested that Harris is requesting a rematch because she lost. When asked by Fox News host Sean Hannity if he would be open to debating Harris again, Trump responded, “Maybe if it were on a fair network, I would consider it.”
In their letter, Wallace and Loker stated that if the network were to host the second debate, the candidates would stand at podiums without any props or prewritten notes. Additionally, a coin flip would be used to decide podium placement and the order of closing statements.
“In recognition of FOX News Media’s capabilities and reputation, we cordially extend an invitation to all concerned parties to discuss our proposal,” they concluded. “We appreciate your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to foster informed political dialogue at this pivotal moment for our nation.”
The Epoch Times reached out to spokespersons for both the Harris and Trump campaigns for additional comments.
