With the long-awaited 2024 Lok Sabha elections already underway, it is becoming increasingly evident who will take the reins of power in the Central government. After an additional hour of vote counting, the trends point to a close contest in which no party appears to have crossed the halfway point.
As of 4 pm, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was ahead on 296 seats, according to trends. On twenty-three seats, the INDIA group led by the Congress was leading.
According to the 3 pm trends, the INDIA bloc held a lead of 234 seats in the Lok Sabha, while the NDA led as much as 288 seats. The NDA was ahead in 292 seats as of 11 am, suggesting the possibility of a coalition government. By midday, the BJP was leading in over 200 seats on its own, while the opposition Congress had lost over 100 seats.
Omar Abdullah, the National Conference's leader and the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, admitted defeat in the Baramulla constituency in North Kashmir after independent candidate Er Rashid emerged victorious with a lead of more than 100,000 votes.
Furthermore, Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), accepted loss from the NC leader Mian Altaf of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference in the race for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency. The former chief minister lost by a massive margin of 2,36,730.
The Trinamool Congress is leading in 30 seats in West Bengal as the Lok Sabha election count moves on, according to the Election Commission, indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign approach in that state did not yield positive results.
The INDIA bloc advanced with a lead of 28 seats in Maharashtra, while the BJP was leading in all seven constituency seats in Delhi. With 18 seats to lead, the NDA was lagging behind.
The INDIA group held a one-seat edge in Gujarat, while the NDA held 25 seats. The BJP was ahead in all four of the seats in Himachal Pradesh, and the NDA was leading in all 29 of the seats in Madhya Pradesh.
