By Media Infotainment Team | Tuesday, 24 June 2025
  • Funcom most successful launch ever, with massive player engagement and momentum continuing.
  • Players praise immersive world, survival gameplay, and faithful adaptation of Dune universe.
  • Player community showed creativity through base building, epic jumps, and survival victories.

In addition to a stellar launch and a "very positive" user review rating on Steam, developer Funcom said earlier today that more than 1 million gamers "have woken," making it Funcom's "fastest-selling game ever."

According to the studio, "Dune: Awakening premiered June 10 and 1,000,000 players have awakened!" "It is currently the fastest-selling game ever made by Funcom. For comparison, it took Conan Exiles a year to get to this figure. We sincerely appreciate this welcome and feel humbled by it. It should be mentioned that, given how busy you have been since launch, you most definitely don't live up to your title."Launch has been a Coriolis storm, and we’re still riding that mighty gale. We have seen so many amazing things from all of you — the bases, the close calls with Shai-Hulud, the epic vehicle jumps, the struggles, discoveries, victories, heroic deaths, and so much more... We salute you, Sleepers."

Funcom's survival role-playing game reached a new peak of 189,333 players last weekend, surpassing 142,000 concurrent players on Valve's platform within hours of launch. "Dune: Awakening is a superb survival MMO that replicates Frank Herbet's sci-fi world exceptionally well, mostly to its favor and rarely to its harm," we wrote in our review, giving the game 8 out of 10. Nearly every step of the survival climb from parched peasant to arrakis's most powerful warlord is enjoyable, and the worldbuilding and plot made this nerd ecstatic.

"There’s still plenty for Awakening to work on though, as its combat never really hits its stride, the endgame is a bit of a chaotic mess not worth the effort, and there’s quite a few technical bugs yet to be squashed, but even these rough patches felt like tiny desert mice next to the leviathan shai-huluds that are this survival game’s wonderful successes."
