Discovery+ Raises Prices by $1 in First Streaming Service Hike of 2025
Discovery+, a streaming service owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, will be increasing its monthly subscription by USD1 to become the first service in the year 2025 to raise its prices, the company announced on Tuesday.
Last year many different streaming services, including the leading Warner Bros Discovery service Max, as well as Paramount+, and Peacock announced subscription price increases to prioritize profitability as the market matures and also subscriber growth slows.
The ad-supported subscription on Discovery+ will increase monthly subscription charges to USD5.99 from the previous USD4.99, while the ad-free plan will cost USD9.99, up from the previous USD8.99.
This will take effect immediately for new subscribers, and for existing subscribers, it will take place in the next billing cycle or starting from February 7.
There is no breakout of subscribers for Discovery+, Warner Bros Discovery said, implying that it likely has a user base that is smaller than that of Max.
The subscription will grant you access to the likes of Food Network, Animal Planet, and Magnolia Network, most primary programming of which is also available on Max.
It streams adventure reality shows such as "Deadliest Catch" and "Dual Survival".
As part of the major restructuring Warner Bros Discovery is undergoing, it announced last December the splitting up of its underperforming cable TV businesses from streaming and studio operations, like Max, which sets the scene for a likely sale or spinoff of its TV business as more and more cable subscribers are into cord cutting.
