National Award-winning actor Dhanush is set to embody India’s beloved former President and renowned scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in a grand biopic titled Kalam: The Missile Man of India. The film was officially announced at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, generating widespread excitement among fans and cinema enthusiasts worldwide. Directed by Om Raut, known for Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, the project promises to be a cinematic tribute to the iconic ‘Missile Man of India.’

The film will take us on a journey through Dr. Kalam’s life, from his humble beginnings in Rameswaram to his groundbreaking work on India’s missile and space programs, and his time as the country’s 11th President. Drawing from his beloved book Wings of Fire, it’ll show not just his scientific brilliance but also his heart as a poet, teacher, and dreamer who inspired so many. The script, written by Saiwyn Quadras (known for Neerja and Maidaan), will bring out how Kalam mixed science with a deep sense of purpose and spirituality.

Dhanush, who’s no stranger to stealing hearts with his performances, shared his feelings on social media: “I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to portray such an inspirational leader—our very own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam sir.” He’s diving deep into prep, working on his voice and look to really bring Kalam to life. The movie’s being backed by heavyweights like Abhishek Agarwal (The Kashmir Files), Bhushan Kumar (T-Series), Krishan Kumar, and Anil Sunkara, and it’s being crafted as a big, global production. It’s slated to hit screens in 2026, marking 15 years since Dr. Kalam’s passing.

Director Om Raut shared what makes this project special: “Dr. Kalam stood above politics and pettiness. His story is an artistic challenge and a cultural responsibility, inspiring global youth, especially in the Global South.” Producer Bhushan Kumar added, “This is more than a film—it’s a way to celebrate a man whose dreams and down-to-earth nature shaped India’s future.”
