DC Comics Leads 2025 Sales as Marvel Trails in Top-50 Rankings

DC Comics outperformed Marvel Comics in overall chart dominance in 2025 comic book sales, securing a majority of the year’s top-selling comics and reinforcing its strength in flagship characters and premium comic editions

Sales rankings published during the year show DC Comics consistently occupying leading positions, while Marvel Comics recorded a limited presence at the upper end of the charts.

Industry comic book sales data indicates Marvel placed only eight titles within the Top 50 comics of 2025. Its highest-ranked core Marvel release, Ultimate Wolverine #1, finished at number 22, highlighting the publisher’s comparatively weaker performance in single-issue comic sales

In contrast, DC titles dominated the rankings, driven largely by Batman comics, crossover events, and collector-focused editions.

The top position was claimed by Deadpool/Batman #1, a high-profile crossover that drew attention from both DC and Marvel audiences. Batman titles accounted for a significant share of the Top 20, reflecting sustained demand for the character across ongoing series, special issues, and variant covers. DC’s Absolute Editions and premium variants also contributed heavily to sales, benefiting from higher price points and strong collector demand.

Monthly breakdowns throughout the year reinforced this trend. In several reporting periods, DC secured the majority of top-ten placements, including months where nine of the ten best-selling single issues carried the DC label. Comic retailers cited consistent demand for DC’s core franchises as a key factor behind the publisher’s performance.

While Marvel lagged behind in top-ranked individual issues, broader comic book market share data suggests the company retained strength through volume sales across a wide publishing slate. Marvel continued to release a higher number of titles overall, supporting steady market presence despite fewer breakout chart leaders.

The 2025 results point to a clear contrast in publishing strategies. DC benefited from concentrated investment in major brands and premium products, producing strong chart leaders. Marvel’s approach emphasized breadth and continuity, maintaining presence across the market even as DC captured the year’s highest-selling issues.
