Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off a thrilling two-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a nail-biting IPL 2025 match at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. Chasing 180, CSK got over the line with just two balls left, snapping their four-game losing streak and giving fans something to cheer about, even though they’re out of the playoff race.

KKR chose to bat first and put up 179/6 in their 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led with a solid 48, while Andre Russell (38) and Manish Pandey (36*) chipped in with quick runs toward the end. CSK’s Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad was the star with the ball, taking 4/31 to keep KKR in check on a pitch that helped spinners.

CSK’s chase got off to a rough start, with openers Ayush Mhatre and Devon Conway both out for zero. Things looked bleak, but debutant Urvil Patel smashed 31 off 11 balls, including four huge sixes, to keep hopes alive. The team lost five wickets early, but Dewald Brevis turned things around with a fiery 52 off 25 balls, hammering 30 runs in one over from Vaibhav Arora. Shivam Dube’s calm 45 and MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 17, finished with a classic six off Russell in the final over, got CSK close. Anshul Kamboj sealed the deal with a boundary off the second-to-last ball, sending CSK fans into a frenzy.

KKR’s bowlers, including Arora (3/48) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/18), gave it their all but couldn’t defend the total. The loss leaves KKR with 11 points from 12 games, all but ending their playoff dreams. CSK, with just three wins in 12 matches, are last in the standings but showed plenty of heart in IPL 2025.

Noor Ahmad earned Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling. Dhoni, speaking after the game, thanked the fans and said he’d think about his future after the season. This win highlights CSK’s never-say-die attitude and puts a big dent in KKR’s title defense.
