Universal Pictures has made an unprecedented announcement that tickets to select IMAX 70mm screenings of their upcoming epic. The Odyssey will go on sale Thursday, July 17, 2025, one year in advance of the film opening in theaters on July 17, 2026.
This ambitious approach signifies how eager the audience is to see Nolan adapting one of the most popular poems of all time by Homer, after the recent Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer scored significant success and acclaim.
But, there is a catch; pre-sale tickets will only be available in theatres with IMAX 70mm screens which are the favorite ones of the filmmaker Nolan and only at specific performance times.

The entire film is being shot on IMAX film cameras, a cinematic first, and the film is billed to provide a visually amazing re-telling of the mythic saga, with Universal advertising the usage of brand new IMAX film technology. There is already informally electric buzz, powered by a teaser trailer that is already being shown in front of certain screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman, but remains unseen to the general public.
Nolan has a reputation of creating event films which combined with the paucity of IMAX 70mm projectors will cause a scramble to purchase tickets. Oppenheimer enthusiasts can remember the insane rush on IMAX tickets, with midnight and early birds shows being sold out quickly. The early start of sales indicates that Universal is confident that the film will sparkle because of Nolan as well as his solid 70mm fanbase, and they are trying to milk the hype around this 250-million-dollar production.
