Bollywood Dazzles at 70th Filmfare 2025: Laapataa Stars

The 70th Hyundai Filmfare Awards, held in partnership with Gujarat Tourism, lit up Ahmedabad’s EKA Arena by Kankaria Lake on October 11.

This dazzling night celebrated 70 years of Hindi cinema, blending heartfelt tributes with unforgettable performances.

Laapataa Ladies took home a whopping 13 awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Kiran Rao, proving its powerful story about women’s strength resonated deeply.

The evening began with a stunning drone show that traced Bollywood’s journey from black-and-white classics to today’s digital hits, setting a nostalgic yet vibrant mood.

The red carpet was a fan’s dream, with stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Abhishek Bachchan, Alia Bhatt, and Jaya Bachchan wowing in stylish outfits.

Host Maniesh Paul kept the crowd laughing, joking, “Seventy years of Filmfare— we’re aging like fine wine, but the drama never gets old!”

Laapataa Ladies dominated, winning Best Supporting Actor for Ravi Kishan, Best Supporting Actress for Chhaya Kadam, Best Screenplay and Dialogue for Sneha Desai, and music awards like Best Lyrics for Prashant Pandey’s “Sajni” and Best Playback Singer (Male) for Arijit Singh’s soulful track.

Kill followed closely with six awards, including Best Cinematography for Rafey Mehmood and Best Action for Seayoung Oh and Parvez Shaikh. Abhishek Bachchan’s emotional Best Actor (Male) win for I Want To Talk, shared with Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion, was a highlight, while Alia Bhatt won Best Actress for Jigra. Pratibha Ranta earned Critics’ Best Actress for her standout role in Laapataa Ladies.

The performances were electric: Shah Rukh Khan kicked things off with a high-energy “Jawan” act, and Akshay Kumar had everyone dancing to classics like “Tip Tip Barsa Paani.” Ananya Panday blended Gujarati folk with Bollywood flair, joined by SRK and Karan Johar. Kriti Sanon honored Lifetime Achievement awardee Zeenat Aman with “Chura Liya Hai Tumne,” while Abhishek paid tribute to his dad, Amitabh Bachchan, with “Khaike Paan Banaras Wala.” A sweet birthday shoutout to Amitabh, led by SRK, had Jaya and Shweta Bachchan smiling in the audience.

Cine Icon Awards celebrated legends like Bimal Roy, Dilip Kumar, Nutan, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Sridevi, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Karan Johar. Newcomers Nitanshi Goel (Laapataa Ladies) and Lakshya (Kill) shone as debut stars, while Shyam Benegal joined Zeenat Aman for Lifetime honors.

Gujarat CM Bhupendrabhai Patel called the state a “hub of creativity,” and Hyundai’s Tarun Garg cheered the brand’s bond with Bollywood.
