Another Bridge Collapses in Siwan, Bihar Marking the Seventh Incident in 15 days

A section of a bridge across the Gandaki river in Siwan district fell on Wednesday morning, the seventh such incident in the state in the last fifteen days, which is concerning for Bihar. Situated in the Deoria area of the district, the little bridge links Mahrajganj with other villages. As of now, no casualties have been recorded. In the previous eleven days, there have been two instances of bridge collapse in Siwan.

The precise cause is being looked at, according to Deputy Development Commissioner Mukesh Kumar. He further mentioned that senior block officials had already arrived at the location.

"This morning, a section of the Deoria block bridge fell. As of yet, the precise reason is unknown. "Senior officials from the block have arrived at the location, and I will be joining them," he continued.

"It happened at approximately five in the morning. According to preliminary data, the bridge was built between 1982 and 1983. For the past two days, the bridge has been undergoing repairs," Kumar continued.

The collapse of the bridge may have been caused by heavy rains in the days before, according to the villagers, who also speculated that a surge in the Gandaki river may have weakened the stability of the bridge.

This tragedy highlights mounting worries about the quality of infrastructure in Bihar, as it comes only 11 days after another bridge collapsed in Siwan. A section of a bridge collapsed in the Darounda neighborhood on June 22.

Following reports of similar incidents in areas like Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran, and Kishanganj, the Bihar government appointed a high-level committee to look into these incidents.
