Anirudh Ravichander Launches Albuquerque Records Music Label

Indian composer and performer Anirudh Ravichander has launched Albuquerque Records, an artist-owned music label aimed at releasing his film and independent projects while backing new voices from the regional pop music space.

The Chennai-based musician said the move gives him direct control over music catalogue ownership and a dedicated platform to develop music beyond film soundtracks.

Widely known as an Indian film composer, he said the label will handle releases across languages and formats, covering cinema music, singles and collaborative projects within the broader Indian music business.

Albuquerque Records takes its name from the American city referenced in the television series Breaking Bad, a nod to Ravichander’s long-held interest in the show. The branding reflects an attempt to connect global references with local audiences while strengthening his position in the independent music ecosystem.

The label’s operations will be led by B. Kaushik, who joins as Label Head and Chief Operating Officer. Kaushik has worked with Ravichander since the early phase of his career and previously headed the pop division at Sony Music India – South. His responsibilities will include artist development, release strategy, partnerships and long-term catalogue growth.

Initial plans include releasing select original soundtracks from upcoming films alongside non-film singles under the Indian music label banner. The company will also review completed demos from emerging artists, focusing on originality, production quality and commercial viability.

Industry observers say the launch reflects structural changes in the streaming market India, where established creators are building independent infrastructures to manage rights, distribution and branding.
