Ange Postecoglou Eyed by Leverkusen and Fenerbahce After Managerial Shakeups

Ange Postecoglou, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss, is being heavily linked with two major European clubs, Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce, following the dismissals of Erik ten Hag and Jose Mourinho.

The 60-year-old Australian, known for his exciting, attacking style of football, is a top target to take charge of ambitious projects at both clubs, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. Bayer Leverkusen, who won the Bundesliga in 2023/24, let go of ten Hag after a terrible start to the 2025/26 season, picking up just one point from their first two games. With a tough Champions League group featuring Manchester City and Newcastle United ahead, the German club wants a manager with European experience.

Postecoglou’s success in guiding Tottenham to the Europa League title last season makes him a great fit. His high-energy, attacking approach could be just what Leverkusen needs, though interim manager Rogier Meijer is currently holding the reins.

Fenerbahce on the other hand fired Mourinho after they had failed to make it to the champions league and lost Benfica 1-0 on aggregate. Having a star-studded team and a Europa League football to win the game, the Turkish club feels that Postecoglou and his tactics would enable the club to play dominant football. He has an impressive resume: Australia, Japan, Scotland, and England where he has headed Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years, which has made him remain on the radar of the most successful clubs.

Postecoglou has been choosy about his follow-up job since leaving Tottenham in June, having reportedly rejected an offer at LAFC in the MLS. Even after an erratic season at Spurs, where they ended up 17th in the Premier League, players such as Heung-min Son spoke of the difference he made in the club.

With Leverkusen and Fenerbahce considering their options on the international break, Postecoglou has experience and a style that would make him an excellent choice. But there are other contenders such as Xavi Hernandez to Leverkusen which might complicate matters. The fans are full of anticipation as to where Postecoglou will go next in his European journey.
