ABC News Appoints Almin Karamehmedovic as President

Karamehmedovic has managed the production and daily operations of World News Tonight with David Muir since August 2014. He will assume the role of president following Kim Goodwin's retirement announcement in May.In the interim, Debra O'Connell, President of News Group and Networks at Disney Entertainment, has been supervising ABC News.

Since January 2022, Karamehmedovic's authorities have grown from executive producer to senior executive producer, adding oversight of news content development. As president, he will organize the daily operations of ABC News and lead the teams behind World News Tonight with David Muir, Good Morning America, The View, 20/20, Nightline, ABC News Live, ABC News Studios, and special events coverage.

Earlier in this role on World News Tonight with David Muir, Karamehmedovic acted as the executive producer of Nightline, including its primetime pieces for two seasons, as well as several ABC primetime hours, 20/20 specials, and breaking news reports. He started his career at ABC News in 1998 as a freelance video editor in London and was among the first journalists to approach Tora Bora in Afghanistan where Osama bin Laden was hiding. In 2003, he embedded with the U.S. Army during the Iraq invasion, and in 2005, he was one of the first journalists to report on the genocide in Darfur/Sudan.

He has also reported on the war in Southern Lebanon and was among the first to reach Haiti in 2010 after the destructive earthquake. He returned to Al Anbar in Iraq to cover the fight against ISIS and visited the frontlines in Afghanistan. His work includes interviewing Holocaust survivors 75 years later, traveling to Normandy with American war veterans, and reporting on children affected by climate change in Madagascar.

Karamehmedovic has visited over 100 countries and has acquired skills in shooting, producing, editing, and broadcasting from virtually any location. His privileges include the prestigious DuPont Award, 16 Emmys, nine Edward R. Murrow Awards, two Christopher Awards, and a Peabody Award.

He is a graduate from the University of Greenwich in London.
