Magnus Carlsen, a five-time world chess champion, is reported to have been defeated by a 9-year-old Bangladeshi schoolboy in an online tournament. According to credentials, coach Naim Haque, a FIDE Master, confirmed that his student triumphed over Carlsen, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest chess players in history.

According to reports, the match between Carlsen and Ryan Rashid Mugdha, a third grader from Dhaka, occurred on January 18 during a Bullet Brawl game.

According to Naim, he provided his official Chess.com account to Mugdha, as the young player does not have his own profile or official title. The child was randomly paired with Carlsen.

In the bullet format, players are given just a minute to finish their moves.

‘Accidental Mouse Click’

As per reports, Carlsen accidentally moved his queen to the wrong square, creating an opening for Mugdha to seize the opportunity and secure an unlikely victory against the chess superstar.

Coach Naim was quoted, “I teach Mugdha chess, and he always loves to play online. I let him use my ID, and later, he suddenly called me, saying he had beaten Carlsen. At first, I couldn’t believe it. Then he sent me screenshots and all the game details, and I was amazed.”   Mughda is the current Under-10 junior champion in Bangladesh.

Players can enter if they are a member of the Verified Titled Players club on Chess.com, according to its rules.

Recently, Carlsen was in the news after he was disqualified from the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in New York for violating the dress code of the competition.

Carlsen wore jeans for one match, which elicited USD 200 fine on him and eventual disqualification in the tournament from repeated offenses. The 34-year-old then withdrew from the tournament but later returned and shared the title with Ian Nepomniachtchi.
