144 section in Hyderabad: Police Reveals the Reason

Curfew Announced in hyderabad and Secunderabad

The Hyderabad City police Commissioner, CV Anand, announced a prohibition on public gatherings, processions, rallies and protests within the city limits of Hyderabad and Secunderabad for one month, starting from Sunday, October 27. This move is forced at maintaining peace and public order, such concerns were following over potential disturbances.

Order Issued Under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 

As per the report by ANI, the order was produced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 (previously known as Section 144). This section grants authority the power to restrict assemblies and activities that may incite public disorder. As per the police order, gatherings of five or more people, along with any processions, rallies, or public meetings , are now prohibited. 

Focus on Prevent Disturbances and Maintain Peace

According to a report from the Telangana Police department, numerous organizations and parties have been making efforts to create disruptions affecting public peace in Hyderabad. As mentioned in the report by ANI, commissioner CV Anand stated  "Reliable information has been placed before me that several organizations, and parties are trying to create disturbances affecting public peace and order in Hyderabad City, by resorting to dharnas and protests."

Restrictions and Penalties

The ban prohibits individuals or groups from making speeches, gestures, or displaying symbols, placards, flags, or electronic messages that might disrupt public peace. Those who violate this, particularly near sensitive areas like the Secretariat, will be subject to prosecution under applicable laws.

The order allows peaceful protests only at Indira Park Dharna Chowk. The police stressed that any dharna or protest taking place outside this location in Hyderabad and Secunderabad is strictly prohibited, underlining the need to preserve public peace. "The public is hereby informed that any person violating the above orders, especially around the Secretariat and other sensitive places, shall be liable for prosecution under appropriate penal provisions," added the official order as mentioned in the report by ANI.
