Rohit Sharma and Team India dominated the night, winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for the historic third time. But, amidst the celebrations, one question loomed large: Was this Rohit's final ODI?

The Indian captain, however, put all speculation to rest, dismissing retirement rumors in his trademark style. "I am not going to retire from this format," Rohit declared, ensuring that his dominance in 50-over cricket is far from over.

Rohit's tribute to Iyer: "Shreyas was the silent hero"

While the spotlight was focused on India's victory, Rohit singled out Shreyas Iyer as the final's unsung hero.

"Shreyas was important in the middle order. Even after I left, he formed an important partnership with Axar. "He was the silent hero," Rohit admitted.

His words reflected the team-first mentality that characterizes India's strategy under his leadership.

"The hunger is alive" - The spirit of India's locker room

Rohit discussed the unwavering hunger in the Indian camp, crediting senior players with setting the tone.

"Even those who have played a lot of cricket still have the hunger to win, and that rubs off on the younger players," he told reporters. "We have 5-6 players who are real stalwarts… it makes the job easier for all of us."

India's greatest strength has been its balance of experience and youth, and this title win exemplified that formula.

"No future plans, just enjoying the moment"

When asked about his future plans, Rohit replied with a carefree grin, "Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega" (There is no future plan; whatever happens will continue).

It was typical Rohit—cool, composed, and unaffected by external noise. His primary goal remains to play good cricket, win matches, and enjoy the journey.

"Winning matters more than personal milestones"

Rohit also reflected on India's semi-final exit from the 2019 World Cup, despite his record-breaking run tally.

"I scored heavily in 2019, but it wasn't enjoyable because the team didn't win," he said. "When you contribute in a winning cause, that's where the real satisfaction comes in."

His approach is clear: team comes first, followed by records. "I am clear in my mind about how I want to bat, and that is what I am trying to do," the batsman said.
