'Fantastic Four: First Steps' Soars with 218 Million USD Global Box Office Debut
Disney and Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps took the box office by storm, raking in $218 million worldwide during its opening weekend.
The latest reboot of Marvel’s iconic First Family brought in $118 million from 4,125 theaters across North America and another $100 million from 52 international markets.
This smashed expectations, which had predicted a domestic opening of $100-$110 million. Directed by Matt Shakman, the film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing), and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch).
The movie’s success was boosted by premium screenings, with IMAX tickets making up $16 million, or 13.6% of domestic sales, the second-highest IMAX share for a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film.

The audience was mostly male (70%) and young, with 42% under 25, showing the film’s strong pull with younger fans. Critics loved its fresh, retro-futuristic vibe, giving it an 89% "Certified Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes—a big leap from earlier Fantastic Four films that struggled with critics and at the box office.
The film’s $57 million opening day was the second-biggest of 2025, just behind A Minecraft Movie ($57.11 million) and ahead of DC’s Superman ($56.1 million). Despite a hefty $200 million budget, the movie’s great reviews and an A- CinemaScore suggest it could keep drawing crowds, unlike recent MCU films like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, which lost money.

Overseas, the film did best in Mexico ($12 million), the UK ($10.8 million), France ($5.7 million), and Brazil ($5.1 million). Set in a 1960s-inspired alternate Earth, this standalone story makes it easy for new viewers to jump in. With Disney hitting $3 billion in global ticket sales for 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps marks a strong comeback for the MCU. Fans can look forward to Spider-Man: Brand New Day next in July 2026.
