Napoli Crowned Serie A Champions: A Triumph of Grit and Glory

On May 23, 2025, Napoli sealed their fourth Serie A crown and their second title in three years by winning 2-0 against Cagliari at the stadium named after Diego Armando Maradona. With the win, the streets of Naples were packed with people, fireworks lit the sky and fans celebrated like they had done during Diego Maradona’s times. The result placed Napoli at the top of Italian football once again after they thrived in a tough season and battled hard in the match that decided the title.

The Road to the Title

The 2024-25 Serie A season saw lots of ups and downs and the fought-for title wasn’t sealed until close to the end. In the last round, Napoli was one point ahead of Inter Milan, who kept battling until the match ended. If the teams ended the season tied in points, they could have made the playoff. However, thanks to their strong will, Napoli won the title without penalty. At the end of the season, they had 82 points from 38 games, winning 24, making 10 draws, and ending with only 4 losses, enough to win by just a single point over Inter.

Thanks to Antonio Conte, Napoli went from being 10th in the league to becoming one of the best defensive teams in Italy. Napoli had the league’s best defense, as they only let in 27 goals despite scoring the least amount of goals of any Serie A winner since the league became a 20-team competition. Their strong defense, together with crucial efforts from important players, played a major role in their championship win.
